Good morning DCBC,
As we finish up 2022, I have a few announcements.
Christmas Party
The Christmas party is next Thursday, December 15th, at 7:00 PM. It will be at Black Warrior Brewing and will be catered by Moes Original BBQ. To attend you simply need to be a 2022 member of the club, or be signed up for 2023. Registration for 2023 is up on the website ( https://www.druidcitybicycleclub.com ) and we encourage you to go ahead and get registered for next year. It is only $25 for individuals and $35 for family. Honestly, the Christmas Party alone is worth that!
Board Positions
The Christmas party also serves as the club’s annual meeting for the general membership, and is where election of officers will take place. Proposed bylaw changes are also voted on at the Christmas party, so make sure to attend!
It isn’t too late if you, or someone you know, are interested in serving on the board for the next term. The open positions are as follows (all two year terms unless specified):
President – Special one year term that typically is filled by the sitting President-Elect/VP. Clifford Ammons unfortunately had to resign from that post earlier this year, so we will need to fill that position.
President-Elect/VP – The first year is a good opportunity to get familiar with board proceedings and the mission of the club. Year two you will transition into the role of President.
Secretary – The secretary maintains the minutes of all meetings and files of club records. They are also responsible for presiding over meetings in the absence of both the President and the President-Elect.
Road Bike Coordinator – The road bike coordinator plans rides and routes for the club rides.
All nominations should be made by reaching out to a current member of that board, or by emailing president@druidcitybicycleclub.com
Gobblecross
Gobblecross was very successful this year. We saw improved numbers of participants, and just as important, a large increase in fanfare throughout the course. Due to the generosity of our sponsors, led by Trek Bikes Tuscaloosa, we were able to show a net profit of more than $3,700.
Without the support of the cycling community, this event wouldn’t be successful. I would like to personally thank Randy Charles, Beth Mitchell, Morgan Hunt, Pat Tessner, Carl Hancock, Stephen Glenn, Dave Thomas, Tuscaloosa Mountain Flyers, WAMBA, and everyone else who helped.
In Closing, the club was able to maintain a balanced budget in a very difficult financial economy, while still able to keep with our mission of supporting cycling in Tuscaloosa County with benevolence.
The club is in a good place financially, and I am quite optimistic on the future with our current board of directors in place. The board is only a handful of representatives from a vast cycling community that is unlike any I have ever been around. Without each and every one of you, the club couldnt exist.
It has been an absolute pleasure to serve on the board for the last two years, and I look forward to the future of cycling in Tuscaloosa County. I hope to see everyone on a bike soon!
